For the 2017 Busselton Half Marathon, the Busselton Runners Club have partnered with Front Runner Sports to promote the event. We have witnessed over the previous years a pattern in which several of the fastest runners have all been trained by the coaches from Front Runner, but this year one of our club members has volunteered to put their body on the line to find out just how much faster you can run if you’re properly trained.
Our volunteer runner has a half marathon PB of 1h27m, but is returning to running after having run very little over winter.
- 30 minute recovery run
- 12 minute run test
- 8km tempo/endurance
Week 1 of 12 was an easy introduction to the program with only three runs scheduled:
It seemed strange to start the program with a recovery run, but it turned out to be good because I was coming off a race on Sunday.
The 12 minute run test resulted in covering 2.9km with an almost imperceptible tail wind, I don’t have an oval nearby so I chose to use the coastal cycle path going west, mostly straight and flat.
The long run for week one was onlyt 8km and on reflection I probably ran it too hard, somewhere between Z2 and Z3, I’ll wear a heart rate monitor in future in order to keep more closely on program.
Over the next 12 weeks I’ll also track my weight here; I weighed myself on Tuesday and I was 66.9kg.
