Having just registered for the 2018 Busselton Half Marathon and Fun Run on February 10th I have decided that I should start to do some training to get me from here to successfully completing a half marathon. I will also be blogging about my experiences along the way.
So where is here? I am 56 years old and already participate in parkrun (5km) most Saturday mornings as well as doing a few runs during the week.
I have done longer runs in the past, but have cut back in recent years due to injuries and time restrictions. I have recently had some hamstring issues.
With about 18 weeks to go my plan is to start gently. Steve Moneghetti’s online Trained by Champs running program for the half marathon is designed for the 12 weeks leading up to the event, so I am hoping to build a solid base by repeating some of the early weeks.
Having signed up for Steve’s program, the main differences I have noticed is that it contains plenty of variety each week and that it will hopefully improve my speed. My aim is to complete the half marathon in around 2 hours and still feel good afterwards!
