Spring is in the air and it is a wonderful time to be a runner. Having more hours of sunshine makes finding a suitable time to run easier, but there are other benefits to being outside at this time of the year too.
To begin with, the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. The transition between seasons means showers and thunderstorms with many different cloud formations, rainbows and constantly changing lighting effects.
Add to this the sometimes surreal colours and eerie atmosphere generated by the smoke from hazard reduction burns and you get a free display worth running down to the beach to see. Carrying a camera is optional.
This is also the season for whole families of ducks and ducklings to be making their way across lawns, paths and roads. Wildflowers are bursting with new life and if you are very lucky you will catch a glimpse of a superb blue wren. Getting motivated to train can be hard at times, but being able to enjoy the beauty of nature makes it all worthwhile.
With the 2018 Busselton Half Marathon and Fun Run less than 16 weeks away now is a good time to start!
