Those who don’t run think that it must get boring, and sometimes it does, but there are lots of ways to keep it interesting.
Last weekend I had the pleasure of participating in the inaugural Margaret River parkrun, along with about 140 other people.
The course was more of a trail type than my regular parkrun here in Busselton and the undulations and different surfaces made it more interesting. The scenery was also more varied and natural, so along with some new faces to run with it all contributed to an enjoyable experience that just happened to include a 5km run.
If most of your training is done on roads and footpaths, it is good to get off- road for a change, or even just to change the direction of your run. The different focus can make the whole experience better.
This week I have also managed to push the length of my runs out a bit past 10 kilometres to start building towards the half marathon distance again. I am still employing the run/walk/run method, but so far it is working and I feel good…touch wood.
The big day is less than 5 weeks away now so I need to keep at it!
